I've created a new hat! This one's a unisex fedora made from cotton yarn. The crown is made from two strands and the brim is three stands. The color is "Camel" with a black band.
I was inspired by the hat worn by Mary J. Blige on the cover of her "Reflections" album. Her hat was apparently knitted, but since I don't knit well, I decided to try one in crochet. This is the result, in cotton yarn.
My daughter, Cambria has claimed this one, but I've had requests for more. The pattern is in the works, which I'll hopefully be selling on Etsy and Lulu.
I forgot to pack a hat on a recent trip, so I crocheted one. I like this hat, so I'm working on the pattern to sell. Made with 2 strands of cotton yarn, it's very comfortable.
My son asked if I could crochet him a dreadlocks wig for Halloween. Never one to turn down a crochet project, I started immediately. That was back in June. This seemed to take forever.
I started with a net-type cap and added a chain of 50, then crocheted slip stitches back down the chain for the dreads.
The repetitive actions needed for knitting and crochet can bring the mind and body to a state called a "relaxation response" that is quite similar to what people experience with techniques such as repetitive prayer, yoga, meditation, Tai Chi, and other relaxation disciplines. Research at the Harvard Medical School Mind/Body Institute has found that when an individual is crocheting (or knitting) his/her heart rate can drop 11 beats a minute and his/her blood pressure drops as well. These results can have significant health benefits for people who knit and crochet. Therefore, I am a man who crochets. I design my own crochet and sell patterns and finished projects.
